Tulane and LSU have agreed in principle to move their 2009 football game from the Superdome to Tiger Stadium, but the rivalry will return to New Orleans for games in 2010 and 2011.
LSU sought the change because the Tigers' recent signing to open at Washington next season plus playing at Tulane would have left LSU with only six home games. For budgetary reasons, the school never wants to play less than seven.
As part of the agreement, the 2010 game would be the opener for both teams instead of Oct. 30, as originally scheduled. The 2011 game likely will be played early in the year as well. |

Virginia Tech has agreed to open the 2009 college football season against a yet- to-be-named opponent at the Georgia Dome, Atlanta Sports Council President Gary Stokan said Wednesday.
Stokan said that he is talking to several SEC schools about playing the Hokies on Aug. 29, 2009 in the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff.
This will be the second in a series of season-opening games in Atlanta sponsored by Chick-fil-A. This year's game will feature Alabama and Clemson, who will play in an 8 p.m. game on Aug. 30.
a UA source said later on Wednesday the matchup is unlikely. The Alabama source indicated as much, citing the fact that coach Nick Saban's team is already under contract to open with Florida International, then play Tulane in Week 2 of 2009.
Additionally, the source said, with the departure of quarterback John Parker Wilson, and possibly junior left tackle Andre Smith to the NFL, it's unlikely the Tide would open with such a high-powered opponent.
The game will be nationally televised on either ESPN or ABC. |

Utah is in the process of finalizing a deal that would place the Utes on Notre Dame's football schedule for 2010. It would be a first-time meeting between the football teams. Utah has an open date in 2010 because its series with Washington State was bumped to 2012 and 2013, which also made it possible for the Utes to play at Michigan this season.
"It's not an absolute yet, but we're excited about the prospect of playing at South Bend; it's a great venue and a great opponent," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "For Utah to play at Notre Dame would be a great opportunity."

When the ACC spring meetings begin Sunday at Amelia Island, Fla., discussions of expanded conference scheduling will not be limited to basketball.
Also under review will be the possibility of going to a nine-game league format in football. Under the current system, ACC teams play eight conference games. Each school in the two six-team divisions — Atlantic and Coastal — play the other five division members plus three from the opposite division.
Should a nine-game format be adopted, each team would play four games against teams from the opposite division.
